Legacy’ reveals glimpse of new suit, gets updated title – Entertainment News

Hollywood’s next incarnation of Superman has officially taken flight, albeit with a new title.

Director and DC Studios cohead James Gunn officially announced filming has begun on 2025’s Superman: Legacy, which stars David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan as ace reporter Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. The news comes with a first look at the titular hero’s suit, as well as a new title for the movie.

“Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday,” Gunn wrote in a statement posted to social media. “When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025.”

In terms of the Superman logo itself, which is visible in Gunn’s photo, fans previously thought it would look more like the insignia from the famed DC Comics arc Kingdom Come. Isabela Merced, who’s playing Hawkgirl in what is now called Superman, had shared a photo of her place card at the first table read that featured a Superman logo treatment. The design Gunn shared, however, bears a similar look but is much more traditional Superman.

The film is meant to anchor the new reboot of the DC universe on the big screen. The story will follow a younger Kal-El as he reconciles his Kryptonian heritage with his human life as Clark Kent from Smallville, Kan.

The cast will also feature Skyler Gisondo as The Daily Planet photographer Jimmy Olsen, Nathan Fillion as the Green Lantern from Earth known as Guy Gardner, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl.

The cast previously shared a group photo after assembling for the table read. Hoult, seen in the back, noticeably sported a bald head as a nod to Luthor’s classic look.

Superman is scheduled for theaters July 11, 2025.
