“Not a church hug!”
At this point, it’s safe to say that Love Is Blind‘s Jess Vestal and Jimmy Presnell’s relationship ended in the pods now that they’ve met in the flesh. And their first in-person encounter was … well, lacking in chemistry, to say the least.
In the latest batch of season 6 episodes (now streaming on Netflix), the season 6 pod squad reunites at a lake party, bringing together many pod exes for the first time. And all eyes — especially Chelsea Blackwell’s — are on Jimmy and Jess when the latter arrives to the party and offers a handshake to her ex, which he immediately bypasses for the aforementioned “church hug.” The two trade bland hello’s while Chelsea feels ill watching them together. Jess then beelines right to the alcohol and Jimmy jokes that his “day just got a lot worse.” He admits in a confessional that he’s extremely attracted to Jess and it’s difficult having two women he cares about in the same place.
Then Jimmy pulls Jess aside for a private conversation where he mostly talks about his chosen fiancee meeting his family and his fights with her, and Jess tells him to “be good to her.” It’s clear that nothing is going to come of their first meeting aside from some footage that was exaggerated to look more dramatic in previews, which Jess confirms to EW.
“Meeting him at the lake, I felt our interactions from the pods carried over,” she tells EW. “I feel like I was pouring so much in and not getting a lot back.”
And despite the editing making it seem as if Jimmy was confessing that Jess was still his “No. 1,” she says that’s not at all how the conversation went. “No, I will say he was very respectful of Chelsea,” she adds. “And we both came to the mutual decision that we were not meant for each other and it would not have worked outside of the pods.”
New episodes of Love Is Blind season 6 release Wednesdays on Netflix.
