M. Night Shyamalan’s daughter is now directing her own movies like ‘The Watchers’ – Entertainment News

Looks like it runs in the family. On Tuesday, New Line and Warner Bros. released the first trailer for an upcoming thriller movie called The Watchers. It was produced by thriller master M. Night Shyamalan, but not directed by him — this time, his daughter Ishana Night Shyamalan is at the helm.

The Watchers stars Dakota Fanning as Mina, a 28-year-old artist who finds herself stranded in a forest in western Ireland. She soon finds shelter, but it comes with a price: She and the other strangers living in the shelter are stalked and watched by mysterious, unseen creatures every night.

It certainly seems like a potent metaphor for the modern-day Panopticon of mass surveillance and social media. Although the movie will surely have twists and reveals, the trailer is already full of spooky images, like a winged skeleton holding a sign saying “Point of No Return.”

After graduating from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and making short films, Ishana was brought in by her father to write direct several episodes of his Apple TV+ series Servant — including the action-packed finales for seasons 2 and 3.

“I think as a young filmmaker, everyone experiences this intense fear when you’re embarking on the professional world for the first time,” Ishana told EW about her Servant work in 2022. But her father believes she already has her own distinct style.

“She has slightly more of a fantasy bend than I do. She speaks in bolder colors than I do,” Night told EW. “The camera is more canted or more grotesque in showing someone scarier.”

The Watchers is set to hit U.S. theaters on June 7. Watch the trailer below.
