Auliʻi Cravalho reacts to Tina Fey dragging ‘Mean Girls’ critics – Entertainment News

Auliʻi Cravalho has a message for Mean Girls detractors: “Don’t come for Tina Fey. She’ll come right back at you.”

Cravalho, who plays Janis in the 2024 musical comedy film, stopped by EW and PEOPLE’s 2024 SAG Awards red carpet show on Saturday (above), where she reacted to Fey’s comments about the “little Broadway c—ts” who criticized the new iteration.

When asked by EW’s Gerrad Hall about whether she had heard Fey’s comments, Cravalho replied, “Mother! No, what did she say?”

“She just had… choice words and said back off,” Hall said.

“I love her and I appreciate that she gave us such wonderful bones,” Cravalho said of the film. “Everything about it is iconic still like 20 years later. Don’t come for Tina Fey. She’ll come right back at you.”

Fey, who also penned the screenplay for the remake and reprised her role as Ms. Norbury, fired back against detractors of the film earlier this month while on the Las Culturistas podcast. In a segment of  “I Don’t Think So, Honey” — which allows guests to rant about pop culture grievances — Fey appeared to address criticism of differences between the film and Broadway version of the song “Revenge Party.”

“Little Broadway c–ts on TikTok [are] complaining about two lines of ‘Revenge Party’ when I bring you f—ing Reneé Rapp, I bring you Auli’i Cravalho, Jaquel Spivey,” Fey said. “This is why we can’t have nice things.”

Elsewhere during her chat with EW, Cravalho addressed the social media love for the film, “What I was not expecting was Gay Twitter to come for me once again,” she said. “I have been shipped with Reneé Rapp more times than I can count. I’m not mad about it, but that was something new and surprising.”
