Each week during The Bachelor, host Jesse Palmer will answer a few questions about Joey’s “journey” to find “love.” Today, Jesse shares his thoughts via email about Maria’s crisis of (romantic) faith, the polar bear plunge, and Daisy’s honesty with Joey about how she’s (not) feeling.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: As a Canadian, I assume you’re required by law to do a Polar Bear Plunge at least once. What’s the best way to prepare?
JESSE PALMER: Outside of Canadian whiskey??? You just got to go for it without thinking. Like Yoda said: “Do or do not. There is no try.”
Maria told Joey she wanted to leave, though she ultimately changed her mind. Why do you think this was the week the reality of the process became too much for her?
I think Maria has begun to realize, accept, and acknowledge her true feelings for Joey.
Most of the time, we hear the women talk about being afraid to tell the Bachelor they’re falling for him — but this week, Daisy was afraid to tell him that she isn’t ready to say that yet. What did you think of her conversation with Joey at dinner?
I commend Daisy for being honest and knowing that seeing Joey’s interaction with her family will help give her clarity. She told Joey the truth, and in the end, that’s all he wants from any of the women.
Why do you think Joey chose to cancel the last cocktail party of the week?
I don’t think Joey wanted to leave the door open to second-guessing. He took a stand, trusted himself, and was decisive.
Finally, would you rather… chug a glass of elk milk or challenge Lumberjill Anita Jezowski to a log-splitting competition?
I’ll take the elk milk… but can I squeeze some chocolate syrup in there first??
The Bachelor airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
